Colton Kinnie Blasts Third Home Run During Baseball's Loss to Lawrence

The Hope College baseball team took two of three games at Augustana College this weekend after falling Saturday to Lawrence University, 20-7, in seven innings.

On Friday, the Flying Dutchmen defeated Lawrence, 19-10, and Central College, 5-4.

Hope (6-9) struck for six runs in its first at-bat to take a 6-3 lead, but Lawrence answered with a seven-run top of the second and never trailed again.

Sophomore shortstop Colton Kinnie (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan/Birmingham Seaholm) slugged his third home run of the season during the first-inning rally. It was a two-run blast following a leadoff double from sophomore left fielder Corbin Bennetts (Jenison, Michigan/Jenison). Kinnie leads the team with 19 RBIs and a .407 batting average.

The Flying Dutchmen then tacked on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from senior center fielder Jace DeMann (Byron Center, Michigan/South Christian), a sacrifice fly from freshman catcher Hunter Easton (Saline, Michigan/Saline), and a two-run double from senior first baseman Cade Seabaugh (Ballwin, Missouri/Ladue Horton).

Sophomore second baseman Granden Kinnie (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan/Birmingham Seaholm) added an RBI single in the fourth.

Lawrence (3-6) totaled 20 hits, including 17 singles, and drew 10 walks.

Hope next plays Friday and Saturday, March 20-21, with a three-game set at Wittenberg University.
