SEED Program | Information

Our Mission

To equip Hope College student-athletes to serve through their passion for sport and share the love of Jesus with individuals around the world.

We recognize that sport provides an opportunity for athletes to have a significant platform from which to influence others. In traveling with the SEED program, Hope College student-athletes are encouraged to utilize their gifts, talents, and abilities to build relationships and serve one another.

Through participating in the SEED program, students will be intentionally challenged to use their experiences to expand their faith journey and grow in their relationship with Jesus. It is our heart that the SEED program transforms the lives of individual student-athletes, Hope Athletics, and communities around the world.

The SEED program partners with the Sawyer Foundation and Sawyer Products to annually sponsor international sport mission trips for students, providing opportunities to serve in countries such as the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and Zambia. Trips launch for a two-week period throughout the summer and teams will consist of 15 to 20 students and coaches, representing multiple sports.

Guiding Principles

The SEED program is rooted in the lessons taught through the Parable of the Sower. We desire to see lives transformed through the SEED program so that the love of Jesus grows deep and becomes a guiding light.
  • "But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what is sown." - Matthew 13:23
Experiences through the SEED program will equip student-athletes to serve as disciples around the world to encounter Jesus through the integration of faith and sport.
  • "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." - Acts 1:8
The SEED program exists to send student-athletes around the world to support and encourage other ministries through sport to transform communities for God's kingdom.
  • "He told them, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.'" - Luke 10:2
Through sport evangelism, the SEED program will share the love of Jesus to the world through the passion and talents of Hope College student-athletes.
  • "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms." - 1 Peter 4:10
