Baseball Swept at Wittenberg

The Hope College baseball team dropped a three-game series at Wittenberg University over the weekend.

The Flying Dutchmen lost, 5-2, on Friday, then, 12-2 and 15-0, on Saturday.

On Friday, Hope took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third when senior center fielder Jace DeMann (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) scored on a fielding error and sophomore shortstop Colton Kinnie (Bloomfield Hills, MIchigan / Birmingham Seaholm) came home on a run-scoring single from Charlie Saul.

Wittenberg answered with three runs in its half of the third.

Starting pitcher Owen Weber (Canton, Michigan / Canton) scattered seven hits and three earned runs over five innings on the mound.

Freshman left fielder Joe Rusin (Macomb, Michigan / Dakota) smacked a two-run double during Game 1 on Saturday against Wittenberg (14-5).

Hope (6-12) next plays in the MIAA opener on Friday, March 27, at 4 p.m. at The University of Olivet.
