Ryan Wade

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Ryan Wade joined the Hope College men’s basketball team as a full-time assistant coach before the 2026-27 season. The former Western Michigan University guard and Laingsburg High School standout had been serving as the head assistant boys varsity basketball coach at Grandville High School since 2021 and a coach for the Grand Rapids Storm program since 2020. Wade has also operated his Advanced Basketball Training business since 2018.

Head coach Greg Mitchell said he is extremely excited to add Coach Wade to the men's basketball staff.

"He brings a tough-minded, gritty approach to his coaching style, and I know our players will feed off of his intensity. I’ve known him for a long time and had the pleasure of coaching him back when I was a high school coach. As a student-athlete, he embodied everything you would want to see. He was always the hardest worker and a phenomenal leader for his team. He also brings six years of experience as an assistant coach at the high school level along with his commitment to coaching AAU basketball with the highly successful Grand Rapids Storm. He will be a tremendous asset and  help us maintain and build on our championship tradition.”

At WMU, Wade played two seasons and was part of back-to-back 20-win campaigns. Following his freshman season, he earned a full athletic scholarship from head coach Steve Hawkins while on a team trip to Europe, where the scholarship was presented atop the Eiffel Tower. His playing career was later cut short by knee injuries. In high school, Wade played on varsity for three seasons, including his junior and sophomore seasons with Mitchell as his head coach. Wade garnered all-state accolades three times and played on Laingsburg’s 2013 Michigan High School Athletic Association Class C state runner-up team. He was chosen as a Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Top 100 player in 2015.

Wade holds a bachelor's degree in education and Human Development from Western Michigan. He and his wife, Madalynn, have a daughter, Baylor.
