Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | Alan Babbitt

Unbeaten Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past Carthage

The Hope College Flying Dutchmen made the most of a shorter-than-expected time on the field Friday.

The Flying Dutchmen scored early and often, cruising to a 15-3 victory against visiting Carthage College Firebirds. The game was called with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter because of lightning and stormy weather.

Hope improved to 3-0 on the season.

Junior Gibson Heethuis (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) netted a season-high six goals to lead the Flying Dutchmen, including three during the opening three minutes for a 4-0 lead.

The Orange and Blue went on to score the first nine goals of the game, with Heethuis adding one more and Weston Godbold (Lowell, Michigan / Lowell) two.

Sophomore Preston Hoexum (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) also chipped in two goals for Hope.

The Flying Dutchmen more than doubled up Carthage (4-2) on shots with a 44-16 edge and forced 26 turnovers.

Senior defender Lance Hart (Littleton, Colorado / J.K. Mullen) finished with a team-best three caused turnovers.

The victory was Hope's fifth in a row against Carthage and evened the series at five wins apiece.

Hope is scheduled to return to action Saturday, March 7, at 3 p.m. when the Flying Dutchmen host the College of Wooster Fighting Scots (4-1), a 14-13 overtime loser Friday at Calvin University.
