Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | Alan Babbitt

Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past Carroll, Posts First 8-0 Start

The Hope College men's lacrosse team cemented the best start in program history with a 23-7 victory at Carroll University on Saturday in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

The Flying Dutchmen have won their first eight games this season, surpassing the 7-0 start in 2021.

It took a little work. Carroll jumped to a 2-0 lead 3 1/2 minutes into the game, but Hope answered with nine consecutive goals over the next 12 minutes.

The Flying Dutchmen alternated goals among sophomore attacker Preston Hoexum (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern), freshman midfielder Jackson Vasquez (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion), sophomore midfielder Beckett Monday (Sammamish, Washington / Skyline), freshman midfielder Jackson Arnold (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) and freshman attacker/midfielder Luke Darnell (Clarkston, Michigan / Clarkston) to take a commanding 5-2 lead at the 4:14 mark.

Hoexum, who finished with four goals, struck three more times before the quarter ended.

Junior attacker Gibson Heethuis (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) opened the scoring 1:44 into the second quarter with the first of his career-best seven goals.

Heethuis scored three more times before Hope finished the half ahead 14-5.

The Flying Dutchmen matched their season-high for scoring with contributions from 12 goal scorers. Hope totaled 23 goals in Tuesday's victory against Edgewood University.

Vasquez and freshman attacker/midfielder Logan Voss (Charlotte, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) finished with two goals apiece.

The Flying Dutchmen's next game is Saturday, March 28, at Spaulding University in Louisville, Ky.
