Men's Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge

Senior Lucas Guidone's second-place 800 leads the Flying Dutchmen over the weekend

Led by Lucas Guidone's runner-up effort in the 800-meter run, the Hope College men's track and field team began the 2025 outdoor season with an 11th-place finish at the 30-team Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge.

The Flying Dutchmen scored in 11 events over the weekend en route to 26 points. The two-day meet concluded on Saturday and featured competitors from all three NCAA divisions.

In the men's collegiate 800 race, Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Taft HS) finished second in a field of 24 runners. The senior clocked a time of 1 minute, 54.74 seconds, second to Haytham Ramadan of Saint Joseph's (Maine), who went a PR 1:51.88.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, junior Jonathan Harlow (Holland, Michigan / Home School) placed fourth in a field of 30 by recording a PR run of 9:35.97.

Hope took fifth in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

In the 4x100, freshman Wyatt Hicks (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan), sophomore Henry Burnham (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel), junior Vamsee Vemana (Canton, Michigan / Plymouth) and sophomore Jack Trumble (Granger, Indiana / Trinity School) clocked a fifth-place :42.83.

In the 4x400, senior Samuel Miller (Zionsville, Indiana / Zionsville), freshman Gavin Bush (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Birmingham Seaholm), senior Joshua Ennen (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West) and senior David McNiff (Norton Shores, Michigan / Mona Shores) posted a fifth-place 3:26.25.

Hope also scored in the 5,000 meters. Freshman Cooper Jacobsen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / First Hills Eastern) finished seventh with a PR 15:34.07.

In the javelin, senior Aidan Kyle (Weston, Connecticut / Weston) placed eighth with a toss of 53.31 meters (178 feet, 2 inches).

In the 4x200 relay, Wyatt, Miller, Vemana and Trumble took eighth at 1:29.97.

In the 10,000 meters, freshman Noah Norris (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Washtenaw Academy) finished ninth at 33:23.13.

In the 110 hurdles, freshman Logan Lipka (Frankenmuth, Michigan / Frankenmuth) clocked an eighth-place :15.73.

In the 400 meters, Miller placed 10th at :57.61.

Hope also scored in the 4x800 relay. Freshman Kenny Evans (Corunna, Michigan / Corunna), freshman Nicholas Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Home School), freshman Johan Bannink (Shorewood, Wisconsin / Shorewood) and freshman Tucker Krumm (Traverse City, Michigan / St. Francis) took 11th at 8:25.55.

Appalachian State won the meet with 142 points.

The Flying Dutchmen's next meet is on Friday-Saturday, March 21-22, at Emory University (Georgia).
