Track and Field's Liam Danitz Lowers School Record in the Indoor 200 Meters

Hope College sprinter Liam Danitz continues to whittle down his school record in the 200 meters.

The junior from West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights HS) clocked a record-setting and winning run of 21.89 seconds on Friday at the Grand Valley State University Tune-Up.

Danitz surpassed his old mark of 21.95 with the 10th-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season on GVSU's oversized track.

In the 60-meter run, Danitz recorded a first-place sprint of 6.97 seconds. Senior Alex Daniels (Holland, Michigan / Holland) took fourth at 7.09.


The Flying Dutchmen finished first in two more events during the non-scoring meet: the 1-mile run and the 4x400 relay.

In the 1-mile run, senior Connor Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison) raced to a time of 4:10.78.

In the 4x400 relay, freshman Kevin Barifagok (Las Vegas, Nevada / Cristo Rey Saint Viator), freshman Logan Lipka (Frankenmuth, Michigan / Frankenmuth), senior Joshua Ennen (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West) and freshman Seth Bouyer (Lansing, Michigan / Sexton) recorded a first-place and non-converted time of 3:24.09.

Hope placed in the Top 5 in five more events.

In the 400, sophomore Dylan Terpstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) crossed the finish line runner-up at 49.78 seconds. Ennen was fourth at 50.45.

In the 5,000 meters, junior Luke Skuratowicz (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) placed third at 15:36.90. Junior Andrew Tilly (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township) was fourth at 15:47.16.


In the triple jump, sophomore Henry Burnham (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) posted a third-place leap of 11.51 meters (37-9 ¼).

In the 60 hurdles, Lipka took fifth at 8.86.

Hope's next meet is the MIAA Indoor Championships on Saturday, March 1, at Trine University.
