Baseball Drops Series Opener to Kalamazoo

The Hope College baseball team dropped the series opener against Kalamazoo College, 15-3, in eight innings on Monday at Boeve Stadium.

The Flying Dutchmen (11-12 overall) slipped out of a first-place tie in the MIAA standings and into third place with a 5-2 league record.


Senior first baseman Owen Krizan (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven HS) went 3-for-4 with a sixth-inning RBI single for Hope.


Sophomore designated hitter Cade Seabaugh (Ballwin, Missouri / Ladue Horton) laced a two-run, fourth-inning single for the Flying Dutchmen.


Six Kalamazoo pitchers held Hope to six hits.


The Hornets (17-5 overall, 6-1 MIAA) never trailed and collected 13 hits, including three different three-run homers.


Catcher Harrison Poeszat slugged two of the blasts: a fourth-inning one to left field for a 6-0 lead and a sixth-inning one to right-center for a 9-3 lead.


Rightfielder Cam Kelly slugged a three-run blast in the eighth.


Kalamazoo is scheduled to host Game 2 of the season series on Wednesday, April 10, at 4 p.m.
