Men's Cross Country Alan Babbitt

Men's Cross Country Races to Fourth Place at 30-Team Louisville Classic Blue Division

Led by senior Connor Vachon, the Hope College men's cross country team delivered a fourth-place effort at the 30-team Blue Division of the Louisville Classic Friday.

The Flying Dutchmen totaled 201 points to be the division's top Division III team finisher. The division featured runners from all three NCAA divisions and the NAIA.

Hope placed behind Xavier University (69), University of North Carolina at Charlotte (99) and Duquesne University (189).

Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison HS) clocked a 15th-place, 8K run of 25 minutes, 16.8 seconds. The field featured 323 runners.

Junior Ian Petruska (Fort Collins, Colorado / Fort Collins) took 36th with a time of 25:39.8.

Sophomore Carston Cole (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) posted a 39th-place run of 25:41.1.

Freshman Logan Begeman (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) finished 44th at 25:44.9.

Freshman Cooper Jacobsen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) capped Hope's scoring by placing 76th at 26:10.4.

The Flying Dutchmen put five more runners among the Top 100 finishers:

80. junior Chad Perrine (Jackson, Michigan / Jackson), 26:13.6;
84. freshman Elias Kretchmar (Granville, Ohio / Granville), 26:14.8;
89. senior Jonathan Harlow (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian), 26:20.2;
92. senior Lucas Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Taft), 26:20.9; and
98. senior Dan Campbell (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton), 26:23.6.

Hope's next race is Saturday, Oct. 12, at 11:15 a.m. at the Muskegon Community College Invitational at the University Golf Course in Muskegon.
