Women's Tennis Collects 7th Consecutive Victory After Quieting The Thunder

And then there were two.

The Flying Dutch earned a win over Trine University on Friday at the DeWitt Tennis Center to continue on as an unbeaten team in MIAA league play.

They sit atop of the league at 5-0 along with Kalamazoo College, who is also unbeaten.

Set up by another commanding lead after a sweep of doubles play, Hope racked up a 9-0 win for its 10th overall victory of the season.

"I think one thing that helps our women is our doubles play," said head coach Austin Hunt. "We keep preaching 'Go! Take control of the entire match!'. If you can win two or three of those, it helps so much."

No. 1 doubles pairing of freshman Amanda Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township HS) and sophomore Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) defeated their counterpart, 8-2.

At No. 2 doubles sophomore Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) and partner senior Taylor Truman (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) defeated Trine with an 8-2 score as well.

Junior Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and senior Delanie Riebschleger (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) took home the win at No. 3 doubles, 8-0.

The Flying Dutch continued their dominance by taking all six singles flights from the Thunder.

Lopykinski and Moran collected wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Lopykinski with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and Moran taking home victories of 6-0 and 6-1.

In the No. 3 and No. 4 flights, Weeber and Coffey took down their counterparts. Weeber earned a 6-2 and 6-0 win over Trine, while Coffey won 6-3, 6-0.

Freshman Hope Rhoades (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) won at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
