Rain or shine, the Hope College women's tennis team keeps winning against MIAA opponents.
With a 9-0 victory against Trine University on Wednesday at DeWitt Tennis Center, the Flying Dutch extended their regular-season winning streak against league foes to 61 matches. The streak dates back to the 2013-14 season.
Hope raised its record this season to 5-0 in MIAA play and 13-7 overall.
The Flying Dutch started the match by winning 24 of 32 doubles points.
At No. 1 doubles, senior Sydney Jackson (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Carroll HS) and freshman Sullivan Patel (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) recorded an 8-3 victory against Ashley Spirrison and Ellie Cole.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and freshman Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) posted an 8-2 victory against Jadyn Davis and Bekah Trent.
At No. 3 doubles, senior Saydee Johns (Holland, Michigan / Holland). pictured, and junior Delanie Riebschleger (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) teamed for an 8-2 victory against Eva Morales and Lizzie Welker.
In singles play, Hope won all six flights in straight sets.
At No. 1 singles, Jackson topped Spirrison, 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 2 singles, Patel defeated Davis, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 3 singles, Weeber downed Trent, 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 4 singles, Johns beat Morales, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 5 singles, freshman Alexi Lewis (Cedar, Michigan / Traverse City St. Francis) recorded an 6-0, 6-2 victory against Cole.
At No. 6 singles, Coffey posted an 6-0, 6-0 victory against Kennedy Outwater.
Hope's next match is Tuesday, April 19, at 4 p.m. at Saint Mary's College.
