The Hope College baseball team closed the 2021 season with a 19-6 loss at Adrian College on Thursday in Game 2 of the MIAA Tournament championship series.
The Flying Dutchmen finished with a 25-15 overall record.
Adrian (32-7) never trailed after scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Bulldogs capitalized on 16 hits and 14 walks to sweep the best-of-three series.
Hope got on the board with a four-run fifth. Junior left fielder Spencer Cable (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville), junior right fielder Kainan Bayn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East), senior center fielder Evan Maday (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Kentwood), and senior catcher Cal Barrett (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea) all recorded an RBI.
The Flying Dutchmen added two more runs in the sixth. Junior designated hitter Andrew Gilpin (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) scored on a wild pitch. Cable then delivered an RBI single that plated sophomore second baseman Nolan Gardner (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids).
Hope totaled 10 hits. Cable went 3-for-4. Gardner and Gilpin had two hits apiece.
