The Hope College softball team dropped a pair of nonleague games on Thursday, losing at the University of Chicago 4-1 and 1-0.

Sophomore pitcher Kate Laverty of Eaton Rapids (Eaton Rapids HS) tossed five scoreless innings in the second game, but received a no-decision. Chicago pushed the winning run across in the sixth inning against reliever Maddie Bellew of Jackson (Jackson HS) on a RBI groundout.

Shortstop Jenna Maury of Lawton (Lawton HS) had a hit in each game for the Flying Dutch.

Hope is now 13-14 on the season.
